245G.04 Subd. 4: tobacco and nicotine education required at service initiation
A new subdivision requires license holders to provide commissioner-approved tobacco and nicotine educational material to each client on the day service is initiated. The material must cover risks of tobacco or nicotine use, types of products including the distinction between commercial versus traditional or sacred tobacco, treatment options including medication for tobacco use disorder, and benefits of addressing tobacco or nicotine use during treatment for another primary substance. This section is effective January 1, 2027.
